Barksdale Diaphragm Seals Stop Corrosion

12/15/2008

Barksdale now offers diaphragm seals for many of our pressure sensing products. Diaphragm seals (also known as chemical seals) are designed to meet stringent requirements in demanding applications, isolating the pressure device from adverse effects of the process media.

Diaphragm seals protect the pressure sensor in situations where the media is corrosive, abrasive, viscous, crystallizing, or where there is a high process temperature. They can be used in sanitary processes requiring clean-out, or where high-purity media is involved. With diaphragm seal options now available for Barksdale pressure switches, pressure transducers and solid state pressure switches, you've got more choices.

  • Self-Monitoring Ensures Efficiency

    06/06/2007

Electrical energy accounts for almost 80% of all compressed air system costs. It therefore stands to reason that the continuous evaluation of operating efficiency can reduce production costs and lower equipment downtime. Building in flow sensors to measure and record air consumption, says this report from Festo, more than justifies the added expense. Machine Design presents some self-monitoring products and system setup tips.

Improved Infrared thermometer provides accurate, reliable temperature measurement of glass

Land Model FG provides accurate, reliable temperature measurement of glass
The glass industry's most successful infrared thermometer for glass melting applications with over 6000 systems installed world-wide – the LAND Fibroptic Model FG - has had a major update.

The newly improved Model FG fibre optics based, two-wire infrared thermometer is a simple, cost effective alternative to conventional thermometers that require water-cooling and can also be installed without difficulty to upgrade or replace thermocouple installations.

A range of models is available for temperature measurement spans from 980 to 1650°C/1800 to 3000°F.

Primarily intended for monitoring and controlling glass or refractory temperatures in the forehearth, Model FG is also ideal for use in the regenerator, tank and refiner, and has been used for other temperature measurement duties around the furnace.

Time proven applications include: monitoring and safeguarding vulnerable refractory materials such as the crown, detecting possible firing imbalance at the port arch, and improving control of bulk glass temperatures.

The Model FG's signal processor unit is mounted remotely from the high ambient temperatures encountered at the optic head by a sealed 6.1m/20ft long fibre optics light guide, thereby eliminating the need for water cooling.

An armoured stainless steel sheath protects the light guide, which has additional insulation to prevent any RF feedback in the process area.

Installation is quick and simple.  The versatile adjustable mounting assembly, which comes complete with a quick release adapter and air purge, makes periodic removal for inspection purposes easy.

The processor provides high accuracy linearization of the detector signal, adjustable emissivity from 0.10 to 1.00, and a low drift 4 to 20mA output suitable for process computers and distributed control systems. A built-in test function in the processor provides a quick and easy customer check ensuring that the electronics are giving an accurate system output.  No additional calibration is required.   The simple 2-wire design senses polarity and switches to the correct connection and is capable of surviving accidental over-voltage connection to 250V a.c.

Badger Meter and Tantalus Strike Technology Alliance
Agreement to Develop Unified Communication Infrastructure for Water, Gas, and Electricity

Vancouver, BC – January 16, 2006 – Badger Meter, Inc. and Tantalus Systems Corp. announce an agreement to develop and provide wireless water and gas advanced metering solutions to the utility sector. The alliance will enable utilities to implement a wireless two-way, real-time communications network that automates meter reading as well as enables them to remotely manage other water, gas, or electric equipment in a distribution network. The result is a single, consolidated communications system that meets the specific data and operational needs of each utility type, provides a secure communications infrastructure to protect and deliver data, and serves as the basis for outage management, demand response, load shedding and other progressive smart metering initiatives.

Under the agreement, Tantalus’ transceivers connect with Badger’s ORION® water and gas metering products, allowing them to communicate over TUNet® (the Tantalus Utility Network) back to a common network server or other host computer. This creates a practical, cost-effective system for utilities that manage multiple services or want to partner with other utilities in their service area in order to operate a common communications infrastructure. Essential consumption and operational data will be automatically channeled directly to appropriate functions within each respective utility for integration into billing, customer service, operations, or other relevant applications.
